Democracy at the Doorstep: Canvassing with Care, Context, and Courage

This lecture is for ANYONE interested in canvassing, or learning about organizing for voter justice.

Led by Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries, Professor of History at The Ohio State University.

Rooted in Milwaukee’s rich Black organizing tradition and tuned to the high stakes of the 2026 elections, "Democracy at the Doorstep” will explore how to canvass with humility and skill. Volunteers will leave with practical guidance for showing up well in communities they don’t call home: listening first, earning trust, and understanding how struggles for workers’ rights and civil rights shape present-day hopes and frustrations.
