2026 GOALS
WIN THE MIDTERMS + PROTECT OUR PEOPLE
TAKE BACK POWER
STRATEGIC DIRECTION
Common Power is the organizing force that focuses on developing a volunteer community to win elections all year, every year.
In an era of AI disinformation, biased news, and social media, volunteering to connect with voters at their doors is increasingly the most effective way to persuade voters to vote.
We focus most of our capacity in key swing states where margins are razor-thin. Where we can, we choose candidates in primaries who will broaden the coalition of voters and redefine the left and the eventually Democratic Party. Then we back Democratic candidates across the board in the General Elections.
WHERE WE GATHER INPUTS FOR DECISION MAKING
When we look at the national landscape, our internal process takes key data into account including:
Insights from local partners on the ground in battleground states.
Analysis of polling and voting trends historically and projected.
What voters are saying in their states about candidates that excite them or issues that drive their vote. This is largely gathered by our own canvassing efforts.
The math needed for a majority in congress.
PRIMARY CRITERIA FOR PRIMARY CANDIDATES
When looking at candidates and campaigns in a Primary Election, we consider:
Does the impact of the candidate extend beyond the district they run in?
Do they prioritize policies that support working-class people, address affordability, and tax the rich?
Do they broaden the existing coalition for the Democratic Party?
We believe these criteria point to candidates who are writing the winning playbook for national democrats in 2026 and beyond.
Let’s be clear, regardless of who we choose in primary elections, CoPo will ultimately support the Democratic candidate in general elections because a Democratic majority in the House and Senate is our best chance at pushing progressive policies forward and fighting the Trump Administration.

YEAR-ROUND VOLUNTEER PROGRAMMING
Civic engagement should not be driven by political crises. Elections naturally have periods of low and high intensity. Instead of constantly ramping up or spinning down, we sustain our work through programming and community.
-
We have year round programming dedicated to engage and educate volunteers. Whether it is through the Institute for Common Power's programing, or Action Assembly sessions, the action we take is catalyzed through education
-
A movement lasts beyond an election and building capacity for our future ensures the work continues. Young leaders (currently Gen Z) operate in decision-making positions as they organize actions and lead teams in the field. Action Academy is the incubator for the next generation of civically committed leaders. This is the best investment in our democracy.
-
We keep our skills sharp with year round volunteer training. We don’t get ready, we stay ready. We offer training in live zoom sessions for all levels of volunteers to Learn how we travel and prepare for action on the ground.

-
We have Common Powered Hubs in Washington State, Colorado, and, California.

We build voting habits with voters through regular voter registration and voter education events.
