Support a More Just

& Inclusive Democracy

Our 2023 Impact Report is here!

Common Power is working every day to foster, support, and amplify a democracy that is just and inclusive. We do this through civic education and political action. During these critical times for American democracy, we are on the frontlines knocking on doors, offering courses and workshops on Movement Learning, and sustaining these efforts by investing in the next generation of leaders.

We rely on the support of everyday heroes to help power our work. Please join us by donating if you wish and can.

Common Power is a family of organizations: a Political Action Committee (Common Power PAC), a 501c3 (Common Power Future), and a 501c4 (Common Power). Financial integrity and transparency are core values for us. We file public monthly FEC reports for every dollar raised and spent in our PAC and SPAC, and every report since we began in July 2018 can be found here! Our 501c3 has filed one annual 990 report with the IRS to date, and it’s here; our next one is due for filing in autumn 2023. Our 501c4 is newly approved, and our first IRS filing will come in 2024.

Here is our 2023 annual report for the full family of Common Power organizations. In creating these aligned yet distinct organizations, we are able to be strategically flexible and maximize the impact with the financial support we receive. It also makes it easy for supporters to direct funds to specific initiatives within CP. Donation details using either option are outlined below.

Common Power partners with trusted legal, regulatory, and HR services who provide a foundation of support as we innovate in education, political, and leadership development spaces.

Political Action Committee

PAC stands for “Political Action Committee.” Donations to the Common Power PAC give our organization the most freedom and flexibility in terms of how we use our dollars. The primary way we use PAC money is political, such as supporting candidates, working in elections, and mobilizing with a certain political party. Donations to PACs are not tax-deductible and are publicly reported to the Federal Election Commission in monthly reports. We are also super glad to receive donations via check written to "Common Power PAC," mailed to Common Power, PO Box 51125, Seattle WA 98115.

Common Power 501(c)(4)

Our 501(c)(4) is our parent organization, Common Power. This c4 provides a highly valuable organizational avenue of impact: the names of all donors to our c4 are not legally required to be publicly reported, and therefore people can keep their political contributions private. With these funds, we still have plenty of freedom to do our political action, except our organization cannot “coordinate” with a candidate or party running for electoral office. This means that our support for them must be done in partnership with an on-the-ground c4, which is just fine! We are also super glad to receive donations via check written to “Common Power,” mailed to Common Power, PO Box 51125, Seattle WA 98115. Donations to our c4 are not tax-deductible.

Common Power Future 501(c)(3)

We have a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, “Common Power Future.” Donations to our (c)(3) go towards our educational and leadership development programs. These include national programs through the Institute for Common Power and CP Future, including both (a) courses and lectures for all, and (b) and targeted offerings of Teachers for Democracy, Action Academy, and Scholars in Motion. We are also super glad to receive donations via check written to “Common Power Future,” mailed to Common Power, PO Box 51125, Seattle WA 98115.

Other Ways to Give

We also gladly welcome more complex donations, such as stock and wire transfers. If you have additional questions regarding your donation, please contact Development staff member David Domke at david@commonpower.org.
