Truth to Power: Moments That Shifted the Civil Rights Movement - The Best Speech You never Got To Hear

  • COMMON POWER PO Box 51125 Seattle, WA 98115 United States (map)

The Civil Rights Movement is made up of many moments of immense bravery from original people. Back by popular demand, AJ and David will embark on a three-part lecture series that will start and finish with us breaking down two of the greatest speeches of the Movement.

Lecture One: The Best Speech You Never Got To Hear

August 28, 1963, at the March on Washington, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Little did folks know, another name we would know for decades to come had caused a fuss with an incendiary draft of a speech he was to give in less than hours. The first lecture will break down the original and revised versions of John Lewis's address at 23 years old during one of the most significant moments in Civil Rights history. We will learn of the mentors who worked to change the words of a man who spoke of the need for a more radical approach to freedom and democracy.

One ticket will be good for the whole series!
