So much winning. So much work.

Community,

Last night, in the face of the largest threat to freedom, justice, and the solvency of our country that we’ve seen in modern times, we pushed back.

Hard.

EVERYWHERE.

It’s not the kind of result that comes from a single ideology or strategy, a single compelling leader or organization. We won so decisively and in so many places around the country that this push back can only be attributed to all of us, many different kinds of people with different ideas about how we respond to tyranny, fighting back in our own ways all over the country.

You’ll hear about the “Hellcats” Sherrill and Spanberger, and Democratic Socialist Mamdani for the next year. A new blue trifecta in Virginia and Yes on redistricting in California will have state and national implications that will impact the midterms.

But there were so many more victories all over the country:

  • Dems gain state legislature seats in MS (GOP supermajority broken, VA (13 seats), NJ (6 Assembly seats)

  • Pennsylvania Dems win state supreme court

  • Maine anti-mail voting measure loses

  • Georgia Dems flip 2 statewide offices

  • Progressive DAs in Philly and NYC win

  • Colorado funds free school meals and SNAP support with taxes on the rich

  • Detroit elects first woman mayor

  • Cincinnati rejects JD Vance's brother after endorsement

  • Mayor’s races in Boston, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and more

  • 2 dozen towns in CT shift to Dem control

  • Florida State House seat

  • All Republicans ousted from Orlando FL,  Georgetown SC, and Wilminton NC city councils

  • GOP Redistricting in Kansas failed

  • PA Dems flip Erie County exec, Bucks DA + sheriff

  • PA Dems oust all GOPers from Bucks County school boards

  • Charlotte approves transit tax

  • PA Dems 2 open statewide judge seats in PA

  • Dems flip boards of NY's Onondaga & Dutchess counties, a first in decades, & PA's Luzerne County

  • MN Dems defend state Senate

  • Dems defend swing leg seats in NY, WA

  • Maine passes gun control

  • Turnout in blue district US House election in Texas higher than 2024 Pres

It’s an easy narrative to follow if we just see it as a pushback against Trump. The thing that gives me the most hope today is how varied the candidates were from each other, and how different the initiatives were that passed. This wasn’t just a push towards progressivism or moderation, it was a concerted effort by communities opting to vote for what is in the best interest of their neighbors. It was all of us saying we want better for all of us.

Our biggest tests though, are in the days to come.

The midterms are still a must-win.

The Dems need to harness this new broad coalition to meet the need, by forging a fresh path using lessons learned from very different leaders and campaigns.

And Common Power, after knocking on over 40 thousand doors this year across 20+ elections in 9 states, must come together after the still pending results in Seattle and King County, and show up for voters in even more places next year.

It’ll take celebration, listening, and tough conversations to make it happen, but I’m here for it. We’ve done it before, and we can do it again. Together.

Keep on…

Charles
