BREAKTHROUGH
CANDIDATES
We believe
will change the way we win nationally and in critical swing states.
Our Breakthrough Candidates
Not all candidates Common Power will support this year are Breakthrough Candidates. The majority of candidates we back this year are ones who will help us win the majority in the House. But certain people break through the noise and apathy to influence more than just the election they run in. We’re backing them in their Primaries.

Kat Abughazaleh is breaking through by leveraging her digital reach and unapologetic economically progressive vision to mobilize younger and previously disengaged voters. She is directly challenging authoritarianism and the political establishment. Through a campaign centered on mutual aid and deep community organizing that meets real human needs, Kat is on the cutting edge of how to run an engaging, informative, and relational campaign.

James Talarico has an amazing ability to pull in folks of all walks of life across the political spectrum without watering down his progressive policies or dismissing marginalized communities. He believes that wealth inequality and corruption by corporations and billionaires is the problem that every voter should unite behind. In his past work as a teacher and a pastor, Talarico has seen how our current system doesn't work for the working class. He's committed to long term organizing for systemic changes to our health care and immigration.
-
Graham Platner is a model for how we can hold our elected officials accountable. He directly faces his mistakes in the past and publicly apologizes with commitment to move forward. All the while having strong economic policies for the working class and taking down the oligarchy that’s at the root of our issues. He's breaking through to voters across party lines and those that have disengaged from voting.

Justin Pearson is not afraid to fight the status quo for his constituents, and he has the receipts to prove it. Pearson was famously expelled from the Tennessee State Legislature for fighting for gun restrictions after a Tennessee school shooting (and immediately got re-elected with overwhelming support). We need to ensure that a new generation of fighters are elected. Pearson represents a growing population that is hungry for deep transformation.

Jon Ossoff represents the future of the Democratic Party because he delivers results, not just rhetoric. He understands that protecting democracy goes beyond old and tired talking points, that free and fair elections require confronting corruption. He's led efforts to lower prescription drug prices, protect and expand access to affordable health care, hold powerful corporations accountable for price-gouging working people, and work to ban stock trading by members of Congress. Ossoff carries forward a legacy of moral courage and accountability, pairing bold, people-first policy with principled leadership that points toward the future of the Democratic Party.
