US House Representative Shomari Figures holds the 2nd Congressional District seat in Alabama. He is the second African American EVER to represent in Congress the iconic civil rights cities of Montgomery and Tuskegee, AL. Common Power worked extensively in 2024 to help elect him, and we believe his seat is foundational in fight to vote in America.

Following the US Supreme Court’s recent Callais v. Louisiana decision gutting Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the Republican-dominated Alabama legislature has gerrymandered Rep Figures’ district in unabashedly racist terms, so he faces a tough re-election campaign this autumn. But the math shows he’s got a real chance, and Common Power is all-in to support him.

We will be knocking doors for Rep Figures’ campaign, and we also wish to help support him financially. Those two items – TIME and TREASURE – are the focus of this Saturday’s event.
