Democracy is Winning: It's Time for 2023 and 2024

  • COMMON POWER PO Box 51125 Seattle, WA 98115 United States (map)

It is now seven years since the political disaster of November 2016. It’s been a traumatic, very hard season for democracy and for America, especially for communities of color and women. We are in the midst of a political, racial, and moral crucible. But we now have enough evidence to say with confidence that democracy is winning.

This hasn’t just luckily happened; it’s occurred because people and organizations have mobilized, have made democracy a verb. Education must be paired with action. This lecture discusses four key ACTIONS – the “Democracy Middle” that has formed, Gen Z political engagement, fighting for reproductive rights after the Dobbs decision, and holding Donald Trump legally accountable – that are undergirding today's successful struggle for American democracy. FYI: everyone must do their part.

Note: this lecture is a repeat of one delivered on September 6. This version is free and has been requested by many!
