I don’t know about you but in school when I was learning about the Civil War, I was taught that the South lost the war. It’s fascinating how even with that knowledge, there is still so much surrounding the iconography and narrative about it. Lately, one aspect of Civil War history has been all over the news for and even 45 is talking about it. It’s time we get a better understanding of how the monuments came to be and who built them in the first place and why.
In this session, we are going to dig into the origins around the ideology of the Lost Cause and how, even though the South lost the Civil War, they sure aren’t acting like it. We will look into the history of a group of white women who started a lasting movement for white supremacy before women were even given the right to vote. Their actions over 100 years ago are issues we are still dealing with today and their descendants are holding strong to the fact that these monuments are part of their legacy and heritage despite the fact that it’s. legacy about slavery.
Buckle up and let us jump into the pool of wild theories.
