How to Beat an American Demagogue: Donald Trump and the Future of Democracy (Lecture 3 of 5)

  • University of Washington, Kane Hall 120 4069 Spokane Lane Seattle, WA 98195 United States (map)

Political demagogues are unfortunately not new in American politics, but Donald Trump is the first to become U.S. President. With him in this position and joined by a Trump-aligned national Republican Party, the harm to minoritized populations, rational debate, ethical government, the nation, and the world is devastating. The only small-d democratic way forward is to engage in clear-eyed, smart, determined, historically informed, and collective action. This lecture series traces the people and practices that laid the foundation for Trump, Trump's specific tactics, and the necessary steps ahead. There is real pain and harm, and it won't be easy. But we're going to do it.

CP founder David Domke will offer this lecture series with registration fees benefiting Common Purpose! Lectures are free for all students displaying student ID. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Register at https://howtobeatademagogue.brownpapertickets.com/ .
