A message from the CP Leadership Team
May 31, 2020
THIS MOMENT
Dear CP community,
These are very difficult days, for our country and for each of us in our own ways. We are living in a global pandemic, more than 40 million residents in the country are unemployed, we have our first presidential demagogue, and we are in the midst of an election that will shape our futures.
On behalf of the CP leadership team, we write to express clarity in the essentiality of our work. Our vision is to foster, sustain, and amplify a democracy that is just and inclusive. Foundational to voting justice, in America, is a commitment to racial justice. We will live this out daily, every single day, in our fight for voter registration and the right to cast a vote.
For more than 400 years, we have gotten it wrong on racial justice in this land that has become the United States. Deadly, horribly, devastatingly wrong. The killings in recent weeks of unarmed African Americans Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd are both unique human tragedies and part of a long system of injustices and racism. The marches and protests are a natural response to this, and are a necessary part of the process of turning our national pain into national progress.
At CP, we believe our part in this process lies in the fight for voting justice. We seek to motivate, protect and advocate for the power we all have to create change with our vote. It’s personal, it’s organizational, and it’s systemic. We can, we will, we must do all we can, together.
In Solidarity,
CP Leadership Team
