  • COMMON POWER PO Box 51125 Seattle, WA 98115 United States (map)

This lecture is part of Dr. Yohuru Williams new series for the Institute for Common Power entitled Common Power to the People.

"Drawing Conclusions: Comic Books and Civil Rights"

Thursday, September 29, 5:30 pm PST / 8:30 EST

Marvel Comics has rarely shied away from tackling difficult subjects in its comic books. This was on full display in the December 1963 issue in Fantastic Four #21 when a new super villain was introduced, the Hate Monger, modeled on Ku Klux Klan leaders. Dr. Williams will explore the legacy of Charlottesville 2017 through the lens of this iconic comic and what more it can tell us about our contemporary movement.
