Plantations: Which version of history is America trying to remember?

Plantations. We know their use and we generally understand the history. Yet, these days, they are the sight of whimsical weddings and fancy parties. Folks take tours and it's the architecture and lawn care that’s discussed rather than the dark history that took place at these sights.

This session, we will look into two plantations doing things differently and more honestly. First, we learn a fascinating story about the Prospect Hill Plantation. A location I was lucky enough to visit. We look into the descendants of the enslaved there and the miraculous connection between Mississippi and Liberia. Next, we look at the Whitney Plantation. One of the first plantation museums in the country. Doing its best to craft an honest narrative about what took place on that site.
