An Institute for Common Power Conversation
Dr. Harry Edwards in Conversation with Dr. Terry Anne Scott
5:00 pm PST - 6:00 pm PST / 8:00 pm EST - 9:00 pm EST
The Institute for Common Power is honored to announce our upcoming featured speaker, legend Dr. Harry Edwards. Dr. Edwards was the lead organizer of the Olympic Project for Human Rights (OPHR), which led American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos to raise black-gloved Black Power salutes atop the Olympic medal stand in 1968. As a former professor at San Jose State University and the University of California, Berkeley, he is considered the father of a field of study, the Sociology of Sports. He serves as a consultant to major teams like the San Francisco 49ers. This February, in conversation with Institute Director, Dr. Terry Anne Scott, Dr. Edwards will discuss "Activism with Athletes," his recent documentary about the history of African Americans and sports. Please note, there will be ample opportunity for audience participation and questions.
